Turkey Day

Today was Turkey Day at school. The pre-kindergarden children decorated cookies for the kindergarten kids which they will all share tomorrow. The cookies were decorated as turkeys. With 64 kids in prek and 118 in kindergarten, the kids had to make 3 cookies so that there would be enough for everyone and one for themselves. Try telling a four year old he's making cookies for someone else and not getting one. In the end, the moms finished decorating the last box of cookies. I am officially "Pre-k events photographer". My pictures can be viewed in the Media Gallery on the school's website. Here are some pictures from this morning.

A Christmas Carol

With the Holiday Season upon us, I've been looking for the perfect location for the annual holiday card. Sometimes you find the best spot for a picture and things just don't work out. One of my favorite blogs, Pear blossom, is by a professional photographer in L.A. and her photographs are beautiful. And the backgrounds in every photo session are always amazing. I do wonder, does a professional photographer ever take a bad photo? Can that ever happen to them? I always show you my best, but today I will show you how it's been going for me in pursuit of the "Holiday Season greeting card photo".

On this day, my assistant (husband) and I went to Flamingo Gardens. Upon our arrival, to our surprise, they had a flea market set up in the main parking lot. The parking lots were full and there were people everywhere. We parked the car and got out with kids when my assistant thought it might be too crowded in the gardens to take pictures today. The kids were dressed, I was out of the car and I couldn't go back home now. He then remembered that a friend told him about this amazing park hidden away that no one knows about. "It was a great place to take some really beautiful pictures"! We got back in the car and went in search of this hidden oasis. When we came upon it we couldn't believe it. It was so uninviting that we thought we were at the wrong park and we immediately left. We couldn't understand what she was talking about.

We drove around in a complete circle, went back to Flaming Gardens, passed the same parking attendant who saw us get out and get back in the car, and paid $51 admission. It has been hard getting the kids to look the same way or smile at the same time. Here are some of those images.

The next day we tactfully told our friend that we went to the amazing park she told us about. Her husband quickly replied "there's nothing there". But she insists that all the top local photographers go there and take amazing pictures. It's a really popular place with photographers. I will keep an open mind and maybe I will go back one day and take some amazing pictures. Like the old saying goes "Don't judge a book by it's cover"!
